Spencer’s world radically changed at age nine when his mother was taken from him because of cancer.
But no one told him anything about why she was no longer with him. When the funeral came, and
Spencer saw her in the casket, that’s when the tears started falling and his life started to change. He
went from being an innocent young man, to a deceived young man. Shortly after the funeral, the enemy
(the devil) came and told him that his daddy was rich. And Spencer believed it. That lie began to lead his
life from that moment on. He started acting out. His friends became his mother and father. Spencer
turned on his dad and started stealing from him because he quit giving him money to finance his
foolishness. Spencer says, ‘Once you can steal from your own father, your neighbor becomes nothing’.
He started getting in trouble with small things and that grew to larger things. He wanted family so badly,
he became a lieutenant in a clique. His duty was to infiltrate other cliques, peoples, and persons—
robbing, stealing, manipulating, using dope, lying—achieving it for his new family by any means
necessary. He started selling cocaine, but in doing so, he became a serious crack addict. This was the
beginning of Spencer becoming a repeat offender—being locked up in all but one of the prisons in the
state of Kansas. But there was a calling on Spencer’s life. In 1992, he had a born-again experience when
he accepted Jesus Christ in jail. It was the beginning of change for him, but he still had the same mind
set, soul wounds, and broken feelings. He wondered why his life didn’t change. Seventeen years later, on
his fifth time back to prison, the Holy Spirit enlightened him to the passage in Romans 12:2 . . . but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. He made a conscious decision to renew his mind through the
Word of God. When a volunteer came into the prison to do a Bible study, he asked Spencer if he wanted
to have a personal talk with Jesus. Spencer said, “Yes!”. While having his talk with Jesus, Spencer had a
vision. He realized he had been traumatized at age nine when cancer snatched his mother from him.
After a year of renewing his mind, the Holy Spirit put The Captivity Series by Katie Souza in his path. By
the third chapter, he was caught up in the material of her book. By the last chapter he knew his own
purpose and his expected end. He had a plan from God to start a Bible correspondence incentive course
using The Captivity Series Workbook. Before he was released from prison, he had the entire vision
written out for the course. God then vacated his sentence and released him into a discipleship home
where Spencer became the leader of that home and ministry before starting his own ministry. Today,
Working Men of Christ (WMOC) has over 2100 inmates enrolled in Spencer’s correspondence courses.
They have four discipleship homes in four different cities in Kansas. He is a Head Chaplain at Shawnee
County Detention Center and is a mentor for Kansas Department of Corrections. Spencer’s book he co-
authored called Nuggets of God by 12 Ex-Felons.

David Lance Whitlock is the Men’s Program Manager and classroom teacher at The Central Kansas Dream Center.
He was born here in Great Bend but spent his life running from the call of God! In 2019 after an emergency room visit for a heart attack, he knew with everything he had done in his life, if he didn’t change, he would die and would not be in heaven.
David was raised going to kid’s church. He cried when he was too old for kids’ church camp. He had been introduced to God but at age 13 , he was also introduced to the most destructive and addictive behavior…himself. Me, Me, Me!
David spent the next 37 years wreaking havoc in the lives of those around him. A little over four
years ago, the day after that ambulance ride, he cried out for help, of all places …Facebook.
One person heard David and reached out and said, “Miracles are happening in Great Bend! Call The Central Kansas Dream Center (CKDC).”
David says his name used to be associated with arrest records. Now it’s associated with praise reports. He went from psych wards to ministry; from drinking to discipling; and from drugs to hugs!
David says, “As an alumnus of the CKDC, I have experienced and once suffered life controlling issues. But with God’s never ending grace, forgiveness and healing, I have overcome! Now, I am honored to lead others who are needing help and willing to discover God and His purpose for their lives.”
